LinkedIn Tip of the Week: How to optimise your professional headline

 

Your professional headline is the first thing visitors see in search results and on your profile, which is why it is important to use this field strategically.

Consider your LinkedIn Profile the space where you can promote your own personal brand. What should be the first thing that people get to know about you? Which image of yourself would you like to create?

From a marketing perspective, your professional headline is one of the most important parts of your profile. It could be the determining factor in whether or not you are able to convince the visitor that you are the right person for the job or project. It is about winning the visitor over from the beginning so you should put your most marketable skills in your professional headline, right at the top.

So, how do you get started? Here are 5 tips that can help:

  1. Use keywords that best communicate your professional expertise, your ambitions or interests
  2. Focus on hard competencies that are searchable
  3. Avoid using soft characteristics such as hard-working, positive, enthusiastic etc. 
  4. Include your most important competencies and avoid including competencies that you are not applicable or interesting to you
  5. In addition to keywords, your headline can also consist of a sentence that reflects your expertise or the value that you add to your employer
